OUR HISTORY

History of the Macedonia Baptist Church

The Macedonia Baptist Church had its genesis in the year of our Lord Jesus Christ in 1936, under the stewardship of Pastor J.L. Mann. The Church was located in a small building. From that humble beginning, the church has been held together through strong Christian Faith. But none of this would have been possible without the divine grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. Who is the Chief Cornerstone of Macedonia Baptist Church. During our church history we have seen many highs and lows. The lows have strengthened our faith in God and the highs have proven to us that nothing is impossible with God if we walk with Him and trust Him by faith.

Most of Macedonia’s records were lost, so we relied on the memories of our seasoned members to provide the church history. Macedonia has survived down through the years with the steadfast leadership from great stewards of God, whom God has sent to us. Our very first pastor, Pastor J.L Mann. Then came the following men of God. Reverend Whitefield, Reverend Green, Reverend T.L King, Reverend Davis, Reverend Field, Reverend Darty, Reverend McKenzie, Reverend J.L Harris, Reverend James Black, Reverend Arthur Kinney, Reverend James Kelly.

September 23, 2011 God blessed us with our current Pastor, Bishop R.E. McDowell. And under his stewardship, God has once again shown and proven to us that nothing is impossible with Him. Under the leadership of Bishop R.E. McDowell, God has revealed Himself to us. What we have learned is that God will send Stewards to plant the seeds that contain the vision and purpose has for His church. Then God will send His appointed leader to nurture and grow the seeds that have been planted. And Bishop R.E. McDowell is that Leader that will carry out that vision at Macedonia Baptist Church. Our Worship Center located at 720 Bradley Street was hit by a hail storm in 2017. The building suffered damage that was beyond what we could physically repair. Bishop McDowell brought us together and explained to us, that God has a purpose for this storm that has damaged our church. And through our prayers and our faith in God. God would reveal to us His purpose. We prayed day and night, we trusted day and night. And God revealed His purpose for the storm. We now Worship and Praise God in our new location. But if it had not been for the faith and vision of our Leader. We would still be on that corner right off the highway, in a damaged church. We held our 81st Church Anniversary in our new Worship Center on September 17, 2017. Leadership is everything to the life of a church. And we can truly say that God sent us a Leader in Bishop McDowell. While we have much work to do, many bridges to cross, many more highs and lows to experience. We can truly say that we have arrived at place in our faith where we have one thing that will never change. We know that our faith in God is the key to everything that we desire to do for Him.

Macedonia Baptist Church has the desire and passion to do more for God. We want to create ministries that not only feeds the members, but also reach out in the community in which we worship and praise God. We believe that in order for the church to grow. Every member must be active within the church. We also believe that the Youth is and will always be our future. We want to build a strong Youth Ministry that has endless possibilities. In order for the church to be commissioned to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We must be taught from the True Word of God. Which means that every member must be committed to being present for Sunday School and Mid-Week Bible Study. The Work is Plentiful, the Laborers are Few. And to equip us to do the work. We must receive our instructions from God. And this is where Sunday School and Mid-Week Bible Study comes in.

Matthew 9:35-38, And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” What you have to understand as a new member. We’ve being praying to God for God to send you to us. And now that you are here. We want to ensure that you receive everything that you need to fulfill your God given purpose. And we want you to join us in fulfilling our purpose as the Body of Christ through ministries. Your gift is why God sent you here, and your gift is what we want you to use. A purpose without a plan is just that, a purpose. And a purpose without focus producing no fruit for the kingdom. We welcome you and we want to love you in the same manner Jesus loves us all. “The Best Is Yet to Come”.

We are a Church who strives to serve Jesus Christ with a Spirit of Excellence.”
